A very warm welcome to Wiltshire - A beautiful and diverse County in the South West of England almost half of which is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. Wiltshire is uniquely rooted in the past; Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age people all built settlements on the hills and downs, while Romans, Normans and Saxons left their mark on our countryside and towns. Stonehenge and Avebury are by far the most famous Neolithic sites in the UK, but Wiltshire is also known for the eight iconic white horses carved into its chalk hills. Other attractions and landmarks include Salisbury Cathedral which boasts the tallest spire in England, Castle Combe voted one of the prettiest villages in England, Lacock the home of photography, Caen Hill Locks - one of the original seven wonders of the waterways, and last but by no means least the home of Brunel’s Great Western Railway in Swindon.
With our Centenary over and as we look forward to our next 100 years, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind donations to the Chairman’s Centenary Challenge set up by our past Chairman, Joan Gifford. We filled an amazing 253 weatherproof bags for homeless women in the county with a selection of toiletries, grooming and sanitary products and small items of clothing etc. It was a tremendous achievement and thanks also go to those who made, filled and delivered bags.
The continuation of the Federation for the next 100 years depends on regular new additions to the Board of Trustees and this biennial process is taking place this year. It is essential that new members are nominated and it is open to any member to step forward to become involved in running the Federation. It is a voluntary role that is really satisfying and you get to work with some wonderful ladies. We meet once a month, no special skills are required and if this might of interest to you please contact me at email@example.com for an informal chat.
February is the deadline for Resolution Selection by members. Please have these sent by February 14th by post or telephone to WI House or email to firstname.lastname@example.org . The Federation sends the results to NFWI and the national totals for each Resolution determines which one(s) will go forward to be voted on at the Annual Meeting in June.
