A very warm welcome to Wiltshire - A beautiful and diverse County in the South West of England almost half of which is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. Wiltshire is uniquely rooted in the past; Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age people all built settlements on the hills and downs, while Romans, Normans and Saxons left their mark on our countryside and towns. Stonehenge and Avebury are by far the most famous Neolithic sites in the UK, but Wiltshire is also known for the eight iconic white horses carved into its chalk hills. Other attractions and landmarks include Salisbury Cathedral which boasts the tallest spire in England, Castle Combe voted one of the prettiest villages in England, Lacock the home of photography, Caen Hill Locks - one of the original seven wonders of the waterways, and last but by no means least the home of Brunel’s Great Western Railway in Swindon.
The Board of Trustees has kindly voted me in as Chair again this year. As we go into a second lockdown, I want to encourage you to use the phone - a chat a day to a member can cheer them up. We are going to be very challenged during he winter with our membership and meetings. I know a lot of WIs are using Zoom for meetings, craft groups, book clubs and this is wonderful. We were encouraging a buddy system but for the time beign, this cannot be done face to face except one to one in an outdoor public place. It is possible to phone into a Zoom meeting, using one of the following +44 203 901 7895, +44131 460 1196 or
+44 203 051 2874. It will then ask you to enter the meeting ID folllowed by hash key. If you follow the instructions you can then hear and join in with the meeting.
I hope some of you can manage to join in and let members who do not have the technology know how they join in.
At Wiltshire Federation we are using Zoom more for members, we have several events coming up and I do encourage you to take part where you can.
Check our Diary page for information on our events.
We have closed our office but can still be contacted on the email addresses below, our staff are either furloughed or working part time so if you do not get a response quickly, you will as soon as can be managed.
